Situation: A diagnostics company approached Pango to develop a portable instrument capable of simultaneous analysis of 16 chemistry types on a single blood sample. Prior to coming to Pango, they spent 18 months with another partner that resulted in an unsuccessful product, lacking the necessary technical capability and commercial appeal. They were time-bound to get the product to market within 12 months, in their final attempt to commercialize the solution.
Solution: Within 10 months, Pango created a patented solution that was a technical breakthrough, which allows simultaneous analysis of 20+ chemistry types on a blood sample, through electro-chemistry methods. This robust solution allows in-field upgrades for additional chemistry type analysis without replacing the unit. The extension of this single technology into a product family ensures longevity of the product and maximizes per-unit revenue generation.
Results: Initials units have passed market approval tests and the technology was proven to work consistently and with high accuracy. Currently, first customer pre-orders are being placed. This technology is the first working portable solution in the market that is capable of analysis of 16+ chemistry types. Previous portable solutions were constrained to only few chemistry types of analysis. This is significant market differentiator, protected through patents. Due to its portability, a single unit will be able to reach across multiple market segments (portable and laboratory instrumentation), potentially doubling initially expected revenues. |

Situation: A customer with a portable rehabilitation product featuring patented CES technology had spent 5 months actively seeking a development and manufacturing partner who could provide a full solution-from design through manufacturing and final supply-chain service. The client had experienced a failure on the project with another partner, due to lack of quality and technological limitations. Within 7 days, the client committed to partner with Pango, based on our agreement on the solution, with a guaranteed price and delivery date.
Solution: The portable rehabilitation product met technically stringent requirements for durability, usability and power consumption under very rough usage conditions. Situations where products were placed and had to pass clinical trials included soldiers in active combat in Iraq. Pango exceeded the customer's expectations of a 6-month timeframe, successfully providing an end-to-end complete solution within a 2-month timeframe.
Results: The client was able to get to market 3 times faster, with 50% of total company revenues being generated by this product. Pango is an on-going partner for the full range of services necessary to place and support the product in the marketplace. The client does not have the in-house resources to provide post-sales service, nor the personnel to take care of regulation documentation. So the "full service" provided by Pango is critical to their on-going success. |

Situation: A micro-miniature electrical stimulator that can be implanted by injection through a needle, the BION is one of the most advanced implantable neuro-stimulators in the research medicine today. The device was developed by a collaboration among researchers at the Alfred Mann Foundation (AMF), Queen's University in Canada, and Illinois Institute of Technology.
The Alfred Mann Institute of University of Southern California requested that Pango provide design and manufacturing services for the next generation of the "Personal Trainer"—a portable device that transmits power to implanted BIONs and provides controller functions for them. This complex project required that design, manufacturing and diagnostics be finished in a 6-month timeframe.
Solution: Pango partnered with the team of AMI engineering, and finished the design services within the timeframe required by the client. Our team worked in close collaborative partnership with the AMI engineers, tackling complex technical issues and meeting every challenge on the project pathway. Even though requirements were adjusted and added along the way, Pango kept our commitment to the initial time guarantee.
Results: The BION Personal Trainer 4 supports a broad range of new applications for the BION implant, including bi-directional communication for closed loop control of FES and cascading multiple transmission coils. Breakthrough technologies developed on this project were able to successfully accommodate applications aimed for the future, such as interfacing complex musculoskeletal modeling software. The new BION Personal Trainer 4 has helped successfully complete initial clinical trials for the BION. The flexible design has created enormous research opportunities to be added in the future. Currently, many research and clinical projects are now based on its expanded capabilities. |
